charities.cron is a cron script in the gawk language to frequent the various charity sites affiliated with and These sites enable Web users to donate food, health care, and other goods simply by clicking on a link. The sites generally count one click per IP address per day; by making this a daily cron job, you can cause thousands of dollars to be donated to charity each year.

    Release Notes: Reincorporated support for certain charity sites affiliated with that are back in service, added a thorough debugging option, and fixed the temporary file security hole that had plagued previous versions.

      Release Notes: This version comments out support for the charity sites affiliated with and, which are not currently operational and will cause lynx to return errors. Should these sites come back online, support for them will be restored. support is still present. The silver lining to this change is that the current version avoids a tempfile security hole created by the older code.

        Release Notes: This release includes support for, a fix for a possible security flaw that could be made to execute malicious code on the charity Web sites, a fix for a bug that could leave tempfiles undeleted, and compatbility with newer versions of Lynx that require a terminal.

          I'm sorry to report that a number of sites affiliated with (including, the original inspiration for this program) are now no longer operating. Some of them are expected to return online at some point in the near future, at which point I'll post an updated version of the script to handle any changes. Until then, however, you're likely to get error messages from cron telling you that the sites are inaccessible.
