Totally cool...
If you don't like it - don't download it. Don't look at it. Filter it out of your listings, but don't YOU dare ever try to tell ME what I can and can't look at or see or believe.

You want to believe this game doesn't belong here. Fine.

I don't have a problem with it being here and that ought to also be fine.

The game isn't hurting anyone, nor is it going to cause anyone to go out and become a drug dealer thinking that they could simply apply the rules of the game to actual life... All it is - is entertainment.

If you don't like it being called dope wars, how about this - FORK the code and create an update... I don't know - maybe "Soda Wars" where you have to sell more Pepsi than the other guys...

Geez... you have the source, you can tweek the code - so do something constructive with your time other than telling other people what they ought to do because of YOUR beliefs...

I don't understand how you can drown yourself in those simple minded ideas, and manage to drag a decietful religion into it as well. The problem with people like you is your obsessive need to conform everyone to this utopian-like vision in which we are all happy and sedated with "love for the lord", I pity you...

In all truth, these games are our way of mocking the world and all of it's flaws. If I truly took joy in purely slaughtering people, I would go out with a gun and just open fire on the first unfortunate bastard I came across. If I really wanted to traffic narcotics, I would start out at your child's school. But, unlike what you would like to believe, we're not terrible people for indulging ourselves in a humorous illusion from time to time. Sure, many of the things that are happening as off today in this world are tragic, but it is none of my concern, seeing humanity will kill me off in due time, some just go before others.

Let us live and do as we please, you have the right to your opinion, but at a certain point, it just gets annoying and dictorial, leave us be with our "insanity".

Hey it just a game. Noone force you to play Dopewar and if you are not happy with
freshmeat - nobody demands that you must use
freshmeat.net.

Freedom of the net ....

A word from a vise man who once said:
" The one who take fun as fun and work as work have misunderstood both parts "

Hey, 28 subscribers is not too bad, is it?
Actually most of freshmeat users will be old enough, don't you think?

Why does that say anything about my level of education and maturity?

Who do you think you are? How dare you judge anyone based on the information you've got.

Are you saying that I can't have fun glorifying violence and drugs if I'm well-educated, or are you saying that you're too uneducated to see the fun in it?

> is there really a point to them if so

Haven't you ever dressed up for halloween?
I've often enjoyed dressing up like a gangster and pretending I'm running the mafia.

It's fun, don't try to understand it, just enjoy it, stop clinging to your all-american-moral-codex and have fun.

He's not attacking my way of life, as far as I'm concerned, he attacked a country who had single-handedly claimed to be the ultimate power of the world...

I'm well aware of the people who died and for them I have grieved, but for the attack... *shrug*

I don't know what christ would say about such things and I really couldn't care less.

I'm not a christian, I'm an atheist, existensialist etc... What christ would say, and how righteous he was doesn't really concern me.

What really concerns me is that some people simply doesn't know of common tolerance, respect for other people and their opinions unless it's spoonfed to them with the religion.

If you want to discuss this topic further please feel free to mail me, we really shouldn't waste any more space on this forum, it's ridiculous.

what does self-righteous have to do with the desire for a little maturity and responsibility in society........

feeding the troll?.......what a lovely comment to make about a very serious subject..

I"m not the one spouting flames......just facts and clear concern.

is it so hard to design games that reflect a little dignity ?.....we can't have a little fun without violence ?......hmm looks where its gotten us so far.......

anyway this thread is complete......I'll contribute via other means including non-violent, fun entertainment.........unless the authors intent ( which is not stated anywhere I found ) is to poke fun at the establishment or drugs themselves I don't see where the enjoyment factor comes in here .......I dont find anything about this program or those like it.......amusing to the point of just 'chilling' out about it.....and frankly I had higher hopes for linux in general........yes I relaize its been out for sometime and its also at download.com and lord knows where else........

anyway something to think about.......I am not self-righteous and if I've portrayed that I appologize......its not my intent.......I'm just concerned. As stated above I will contribute to this cause in more direct ways including non-violent , addictive engaging games like quake3 only with a non-violent twist.........

I judge no one but I see danger in some current trends........

I'm old enough to know where and when to have pithy little flamewars. This isn't the place for it.

If you want to continue this, contact me via email- try irb+freshmeat at viopac.com. If you do, please dump the self-righteous attitude.

If, however, you're only interested in mouthing off in public, then I apologize to the rest of the FM subscribers who've had to put up with my feeding the troll.

why, in what way..........give me exactly reasons why you find it fun.......then lets talk about your age..........i'm guessing that puts you at pre-adolescance.

yup its only software huh.........wrong its way more than that

yes along with its condemnation of a peaceful existence........right

ludicrous...........and a VERY poor example...

No I'm just looking for a little maturity in the use of our 'software' and its 'distribution'........but it seems there are those whose 'position' in society they feel gives them the right to play god.......maybe its only those priviledged few driving those elite vehicles that they feel gives them the right to play god........

ring a bell ?

Re: ludicrous and childish and irresponsible

> I like this game...

> I think it's great.

haha............I guess that says alot for your level of education and maturity doesn't it..........yes I say ban all the games that 'glorify' violence and idiocy..

is there really a point to them if so what?
to have a little 'fun' or take out a little frustration...
if so............there are better ways to do so and more responsible ways

instead of playing that violent game go donate your time to the 'red cross'.......

ring a bell ?????????????????????????

also .....yes it IS important to keep a legitimate 'check' on society else it Will run amok as it is currently doing............comments like yours show how far we really have to go as a species to counter violence in our nature............

how much do drugs and its proliferation have to do with the spread of anger and mahem I wonder..........just look at the idiot bin laden whom has his own drug empire and profiting from it , using some of that very money to attack your way of life.......

sure take a chill pill you say........ludicrous.........

what do you suppose christ himself would say about such things in todays society..do you have any idea? :-).........I sure do...he was a kind man but also a righteous man but in a reasonable way.........he knew right from wrong and the pitfalls of humanity.......

it appears you do not......'yet'

No, I wouldn't.

Why should they remove it? Does it offend you? Let's say BIND offends me (not necessarily a stretch of the imagination)- should they remove that?

Perhaps, "codeofjustice", you'd feel more at home in a more proprietary software environment where your kind of censorship is not only supported but actively pursued.
