Hostinfo is a utility for looking up hostnames and IPv4 addresses. Hostinfo uses the gethostbyname(3) and getaddrbyname(3) function calls, which means it tells you what your operating system really thinks rather than simply doing direct DNS lookups. Hostinfo provides options for both displaying and interpreting IP addresses in hexadecimal and backslash-octal notations as well as in the traditional base-10 dotted-quad notation.
Release Notes: A new option for printing addresses without looking them up (enables hostinfo to act as a simple converter between dotted-quad, hexadecimal, and backslash-octal IP address formats), and improved handling of syntax errors in command-line options.
Release Notes: Improved handling of hosts with multiple IP addresses, and a slightly different output format.
Release Notes: Initial announcement.
