linkchk is a network link ping monitor. It supports both IPv4 and IPv6. It works by repeatedly pinging a named host or the default gateway of a given interface. When the link is working the ping time is shown in a small GTK window or tty, otherwise the link status is shown. It is particularly useful for monitoring IP tunnels or dialup links.

Release Notes: Options were added for specification of the host to be pinged, the interface to be checked, and the width of the window. The window size is now fixed. Whether the interface is up or not in ifconfig is now checked. Code was restructured to use implicit parameters.
Release Notes: linkchk now displays the ping time when the status is OK. IPv6 support has been added, as well as a new command option to set a delay between pings. Now uses netstat instead of /proc/net/route, and makes use of popenhs, automake, and autoconf.
