Textbender is a system of collaborative writing based on recombinant text. It implements a social Web medium with potential applications ranging from open art to open democracy. The underlying mechanism is evolutionary genetics: the text exists as a population of variants, one per author; authors swap fragments and arrangements of the text, peer to peer; and genes encode a traceable record of authorship throughout. Initial development is aimed at creative works, particularly at short verse and prose.
The PJ and Supreme4 components provide over 150 text effects for Macromedia Flash MX with customizability and unrestricted editing. Besides default font settings, many effects have predefined customization, and since all effects are Flash components, you can edit, modify, replace, or rescript any part of the effects simply by opening the effect Symbols in the Library.
LXlogo is an interactive LOGO programming environment for K-12 educational use or just for fun. It is easy to install with minimal system requirements, and is a modern variant of the familiar "turtle" LOGO language. Logo is interesting because it gives students immediate graphical results with just a few commands or lines of code, and allows students to gradually become familiar with geometric concepts, and how to write programs and think procedurally. As students move beyond the beginning stages, they can move on to create fun animations and user interfaces.
SVGSlice is a simple tool which generates chopped up images from Inkscape SVG drawings. To figure out where to cut, SVGSlice can use Inkscape's built in guides (for simpler, grid-like cuts), or it can use a specially named "slices" layer that contains rectangles that mark areas to slice. Demo files showing both approaches are included.
MikMod Utilities is collection of command line tools for manipulating the module sound files that are typically produced by Soundtracker, Protracker, and other tools. It allows users to get meta-information about modules, play modules, play samples from modules, render modules, extract samples, and compute total modules time.
Sound of Traffic is an application that converts TCP/IP header information into MIDI notes via the Java Synthesizer. Its purpose is to listen in on network traffic in ordered time via a tempo rather than in real-time, which could be more chaotic. In this sense it becomes closer to music then noise.
image_album generates HTML on-the-fly for the navigation of albums of related images. It supports several different viewing modes appropriate for different display sizes and connection speeds, and allows the viewing of additional image info such as EXIF data. It uses CGI PATH_INFO-style URLs (with no '?' characters) for spiderability by all search engines.
