GramoFile is intended primarily for transferring gramophone records to CDs, but has many other possible uses. It can record very long .wav files with a bargraph signal peak-level meter, playback any part of the files, split long .wav files into separate tracks (with automatic track location), and process the signal with filters to reduce ticks and pops (multiple filters are provided, they can be applied in any order (multiple instances) with user-adjustable parameters). Track splitting and signal processing are done in the same run, and don't need any temporary files.
Debian package information is generally stored in files having a special file format, dubbed the Debian control file format (dctrl), a special case of the record jar file format. These tools operate on any files conforming in a general sense to that format, and are therefore widely applicable whenever this format is in play. The tools in this bundle are grep-dctrl, sort-dctrl, join-dctrl, and tbl-dctrl.
The fontutils package includes the programs bpltobzr, bzrto, charspace, fontconvert, gsrenderfont, imageto, imgrotate, limn, and xbfe. These create fonts for use with Ghostscript or TeX (starting with a scanned type image and converting the bitmaps to outlines), convert between font formats, etc. The package also includes the libraries libbzr.a, libgf.a, libpbm.a, libpk.a, libtfm.a, and libwidgets.a.
Pipo-BBS allows you to install a BBS server and clients. You can chat via a nice interface with an unlimited number of people (as with IRC). This software is in a pre-release state; it is still very alpha, and can be difficult to even compile. It works under linux, MkLinux, SGI, HP-UX, and Solaris. The only interface for this BBS is telnet for the moment; an interface using GTK has been started. It has been translated into French, English, Spanish and German.
Gnome-o-phone is an internet telephone. In other words, if you and your friend have computers with sound cards and network connections, you can use gphone to talk to each other and save on phone bills. Gphone uses GSM compression, so the data rate should be low enough to work over a reasonable modem connection. Gphone supports full duplex if your sound card does.
