LON-CAPA (The LearningOnline Network with CAPA) is a learning content and course management system. It offers an underlying shared content pool from which instructors across departmental and institutional boundaries can assemble granular learning content for their courses. It has strong assessment capabilities, both formative (homework and in-class using wireless PDAs) and summative (online and bubblesheet exams), with a one-source multiple-target strategy for the content. It offers students portfolio space in which they can stage materials for submission to projects, and provides a number of tools for synchronous and asynchronous student-student and student-faculty communication. LON-CAPA scales well with number of students, as load-balancing is possible across the whole network of servers at participating institutions.
Whiteboard is a fully-featured integrated courseware system targeted toward colleges and universities. It supports multiple departments and courses including cross- listed courses, simple migration of courses to new semesters, grade storage, checking, and calculation, assignment submission, testing, and retrieval, documents, announcements, and discussion boards. It is written using PHP and MySQL, and is administrable through its Web interface.
OpenLMS is a Learning Management System (LMS) made at the Department of Geography, NTNU. The system is a fully functional LMS with support for group collaboration, file sharing, distribution of lectures, and other supporting features. It is a good tool for distributing lecture notes to groups of students, and for faciliating collaboration for groups of students and teachers.
libQGLViewer is a C++ library based on Qt that eases the creation of OpenGL 3D viewers. It provides some of the typical 3D viewer functionality, such as the ability to move the camera using the mouse, which is lacking in most of the other APIs. Other features include mouse manipulated frames, interpolated keyFrames, object selection, stereo display, screenshot saving, and much more. It can be used by OpenGL beginners as well as to create complex applications, being fully customizable and easy to extend. It ships with many examples and comprehensive documentation.
Studycard Studio Lite is a program to create and memorize multimedia flashcards, tests, and tutorials, including picture and sound identification. It is meant for educators, students, or anyone who has something to memorize. Students can create and study their own flashcards and track their progress. Educators can create quizzes or flashcards for their students.
Loro is an open system intended to help beginners learn programming. It uses its own programming language and includes an integrated development environment system focused on first-year students. The language features a "specify, then implement" methodology; you have to specify a task before writing any implementation (algorithm). Specification is an explict, compilable construction to make a contract between suppliers and clients, and can be implemented in either Loro or Java (via BeanShell). The IDE features support for test-driven developing, syntax highlighting, and automatic HTML documentation generation and visualization.
GenChemLab is an OpenGL-based application intended to simulate several common general chemistry laboratory exercises. It is meant to be used to help students prepare for actual lab experience. Supported experiments include titration, calorimetry, freezing point depression, vapor pressure, electrochemistry, and spectrophotometry.
