webcam_server is a server that can be used to host a video4Linux supported Webcam. It features caption text, image rotation and flipping, HTTP support, and logging. It allows a client to connect with the included Java applet and watch a real time video feed. The applet allows for frames/sec control. In addition, the browser can be pointed directly at the webcam_server listen port to grab the current frame as a JPEG.

sTeam provides a technical platform which allows groups of students, lecturers, and any other groups to construct and arrange their individual and cooperative learning and working space. It consists of an object-oriented server connected to a database, and Web, Java, and other (FTP, SMTP, IRC, etc.) clients. The server is event-driven and manages all user objects as well as the communication between the connected clients. Features that were different from most other cooperation tools is the self-organisation and self-administration by the members within the virtual environment.

Gangplank is a Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) system (or "chat server") which supports real-time communication between users, currently using a text-based user interface. It runs as an Internet server which implements the standard telnet protocol, so no special client program is necessary for users. Server-side processing provides input editing/history and terminal- handling features over the telnet connection for standard ANSI terminals.
