Emdros is a corpus query system for storing and searching linguistically annotated text. It is very generic, supporting almost any kind of annotation from almost any linguistic theory. All linguistic levels of analysis are supported, including phonology, morphology, the lexical level, syntax, and discourse. The core libraries act as a middleware layer between a client and an underlying SQL database. MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite (2 and 3) are supported.
H2 is an SQL database engine written in Java that implements the JDBC API. Embedded, server, and clustering modes are available. A browser based console application is included. The database has strong security features. Disk based and in-memory databases and tables are supported.
SQLObject is an object-relational mapper, i.e., a library that will wrap your database tables in Python classes and your rows in Python instances. It currently supports MySQL through the 'MySQLdb' package, PostgreSQL through the 'psycopg' package, SQLite, Firebird, MaxDB (SAP DB), MS SQL, and Sybase. It should support Python versions back to 2.4.
MyJgui is a GUI (graphical user interface) for MySQL. It aims to be easy to use for new users as well as experts. You can store multiple connections that can be used simultaneously. Stored passwords are encrypted using symmetric encryption. Underlying databases and tables are displayed in a tree structure with the connections being the first level nodes. MyJgui is capable of easy data manipulation through a grid. It has a unique feature of bookmarking parametrical queries (sqlmarks). The documentation (user guide) is quite comprehensive and kept up-to-date.
SchemaCrawler is a Java API which makes working with database metadata as easy as working with ordinary Java objects. It is also a database schema discovery and comprehension and schema documentation tool. You can search for database schema objects using regular expressions, output the schema and data in a readable text format, and find potential design issues with lint . The output is designed to be diff-ed against other database schemas. SchemaCrawler supports almost any database which has a JDBC driver, but for convenience is bundled with drivers for some commonly-used RDBMS systems. SchemaCrawler works with any operating system which supports Java.
phpGrid provides professional-looking Ajax-enabled grid-based editing, create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) operations for Web developers in as little as two lines of code. It features cross-browser inline editing, support for all HTML form controls, integrated search toolbar, a master detail data grid, image display, MS Excel and HTML data export, permission control, a theme roller, built-in record sorting by any column, support for major databases including MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle, support for large database record sets, and WYSIWYG and Ajax file upload.
PostGIS adds support for geographic objects to the PostgreSQL object-relational database. In effect, PostGIS "spatially enables" the PostgreSQL server, allowing it to be used as a backend spatial database for geographic information systems (GIS), much like ESRI's SDE or Oracle's Spatial extension.
CodeBase is a high-speed xBASE compatible database engine for C/C++, Visual Basic, Delphi & Java programmers. You can use CodeBase to write high performance database applications that are multi-user compatible with FoxPro, dBASE and Clipper, create anything from a Java applet to a full-blown Windows database application to a simple DOS utility, write scalable applications that can be deployed as single-user, multi-user or client/server, all without changing any of your source code, and port your applications to Windows, DOS, UNIX, OS/2, and Macintosh. There's a free 30-Day Test Drive option available. CodeBase is available for every major operating system including Windows XP, 2000, 9x, NT, CE, DOS, OS/2, Macintosh, and a variety of Linux and UNIX platforms including Solaris, SunOS, HP/UX, AIX, SCO, and others.
Jailer is a database subsetting and browsing tool. It is a tool for data exporting, schema browsing, and rendering. It exports consistent, referentially intact row-sets from relational databases. It removes obsolete data without violating integrity. It is DBMS agnostic (by using JDBC), platform independent, and generates DbUnit datasets, hierarchically structured XML, and topologically sorted SQL-DML.
