With a small codebase, the PowerDNS Recursor is an advanced resolver currently serving the DNS resolving needs of over 80 million Internet connections. Besides high performance (using kqueue or epoll, over 100 thousand qps on commodity hardware), it provides advanced anti-spoofing measures. In addition, the program caches server performance and timeouts, making it both network and user friendly. It also has built-in hooks for making graphs with rrdtool, providing insight into nameserver performance.
Dnsupdate creates DNS tables from a hosts file and the dnsupdate configuration file. It can be used to update or maintain the DNS tables. Hosts and aliases are added dynamically. Supports BIND 8 or higher. It has been tested on Sparc Solaris 8 and i386 FreeBSD 4.2 platforms. And should be easily portable to other platforms.

Batch-DNS Module simplifies adding any number of master or slave DNS domains for a server running Bind 8. It can chain to another instantiation of itself on another server, so that after adding the master records, it can automatically add slave records. Any number of slave servers can be chained in series to the master server. It is also written to accept DNS records from Batch-Apache.
beware is a small DNS server that can have nameserver responsibility delegated to it and that can return a set of authoritative "IN A" records to a client. Given a list of hosts for a certain domain name, it also tests for services specified and will only return IP addresses for currently reachable services.
