AppGate Security Server is an access control gateway for secure access to resources such as TCP ports, network ranges, Web pages, file shares, and remote desktops. Users connect with the cross-platform AppGate client (or any standard SSH client) and the server has a detailed configuration that says which users gain access to what under which circumstances. AppGate Free Edition is a virtual appliance running in a VMWare image and is limited to a maximum of 10 concurrent users.
Mail2sh makes it possible to carry out shell commands by email. Email is sent to a particular user on your host and the commands will be carried out if the user and password given matches ones in /etc/passwd. Commands are executed with the user's privileges, and combined with a PGP module ensures a certain level of security for use. Note that the system is not natively encrypted, so use of an encryption mechanism is highly recommended for security reasons.
Astaro Security Gateway (formerly Astaro Security Linux) is an all-in-one network security gateway that includes a firewall, intrusion protection, antivirus, spam protection, URL filtering, and a VPN gateway. Features include a modern packet filter, intrusion detection and prevention, portscan detection, application control, content filtering, virus detection for email and Web traffic, profile handling, L2TP, IPSec, SSL, and PPTP VPN tunneling, spam blocking, proxies for HTTPS, HTTP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, DNS, VoIP, SOCKS, and Ident, logging, and reporting. It supports Ethernet, VLAN, PPP, PPPoE, PPPoA, Cable Modem, IPv6, QoS, Link Aggregation, and WAN-Uplink-Load balancing in routing, and bridge mode. The WebAdmin GUI, Install Wizard, Change Tracking, Printable Configuration, and Up2Date service make it easy to install, manage, and maintain.
Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for various firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI and policy compilers are completely independent, which provides for a consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different firewall platforms. It currently supports iptables, ipfilter, ipfw, OpenBSD pf, Cisco PIX and FWSM, and Cisco routers access lists.
lsfw (list firewall) helps network administrators deal with firewalling on a huge network. It lists the firewalls rules applied between two points on the network. It uses the configuration of the network equipment and builds a (light) model of the network described by the equipment. This allows probing for access-list matching all over the network, doing routing and firewalling.
vpnd is a daemon which connects two networks on network level either via TCP/IP or a (virtual) leased line attached to a serial interface. All data transfered between the two networks are encrypted using the unpatented free Blowfish encryption algorithm with a key length of up to 576 bits (may be downgraded to a minimum of 0 bits to suit any legal restrictions).
SafeSquid is a content filtering proxy server. It supports 'profiled' Internet access, a browser based interface, very fast throughput, DNS caching, content caching, pre-fetching, bandwidth control, virus scanning, ICP, CARP, and ICAP clients, source, target, and time-based granular firewall style rules to allow or deny content like music, videos, Flash and Java applets, messengers, chats, cookies, ActiveX, scripts, etc., remote authentication, real-time text and image analysis for blocking pornography, and an URL filter.
Service Guardian aims to protect servers against various things such as resource exhaustion and connection floods. It can measure the number of connections to servers' ports and, after a grace time period, compares and sees if the host is still in violation of the specified settings. If a host is in violation of the settings, it will be filtered out and dropped via netfilter/iptables.
Pound is a reverse HTTP proxy, load balancer, and SSL wrapper. It proxies client HTTPS requests to HTTP backend servers, distributes the requests among several servers while keeping sessions, supports HTTP/1.1 requests even if the backend server(s) are HTTP/1.0, and sanitizes requests.
