Yentoo is stock Gentoo ported to the Lemote Yeeloong, a netbook based on a 64-bit little endian MIPS processor named the loongson2f. Although Gentoo strives to be a "from source" distribution, building a full desktop system from a Gentoo's stage3 seed using a slow processor like the loongson2f can take many days of frustration. Yentoo gives the user a head start by providing a prebuilt XFCE4 desktop with software for browsing, email, word processing, multimedia, chat and games. It also provides a toolchain and development tools ready to target 32- and 64-bit little endian MIPS for ABI=o32, n32, and n64. Two flavors are provided, vanilla and hardened. Hardened Yentoo has all userland built with Gentoo's hardened toolchain for added security. However, the added security comes at a price of running slightly slower than the vanilla version.
Angel's Destiny RPG is a game based on Final Fantasy 2. There is a system for overworld maps and a combat system which randomizes attacks from banding enemies. Thus you can fight in a side-view screen just as the FF2 combat phases. It features a small overland map with two full levels, including a town where you can talk to NPCs. The system provides for a room with attacks and one without.
startvnc.pl is a script to start VNC on a system-determined port. Placed in /etc/skel/bin/ or the like, it allows each user to start VNC on his own port without having to guess or use trial-an-error on which port he should use. Based on his numerical ID (from /etc/password), this script autogenerates a static port number which should not change.
SHA_HTTP_Auth is a Perl module which allows secure HTTP Authentication using salted password hashes stored in MySQL or another database. Since (presumably) all Web traffic is wrapped in SSL and the passwords themselves are not plaintext, HTTP Basic Authentication is all that's needed to ensure secure Web logins to a protected site. Furthermore, since the user is authenticated by the Web server at layer 4, the need for session cookies is eliminated.
