pngcrush is an excellent batch-mode compression utility for PNG images. Depending on the application that created the original PNGs, it can improve the file size anywhere from a few percent to 40% or more (completely losslessly). The utility also allows specified PNG chunks (e.g. text comments) to be inserted or deleted, and it can fix incorrect gamma info written by Photoshop 5.0 as well as the erroneous iCCP chunk written by Photoshop 5.5.
pngquant is a batch conversion utility to quantize and dither truecolor PNG images, especially those with a full alpha channel, down to "RGBA-palette" PNGs (i.e., PLTE + tRNS in PNG parlance). Such images are usually two to four times smaller than the full 32-bit versions, and partial transparency is preserved quite nicely. This makes pngquant especially useful both for Web sites and for PlayStation 2 development, where one of the texture formats is RGBA-palette-based (though not PNG-compressed).
The pnmtopng package contains the official pnmtopng and pngtopnm utilities for use with the rest of the PBMplus/NetPBM suite. They are among the best PNG-supporting applications available, with automatic detection of grayscale or palette images and excellent heuristics for creating the smallest possible PNG images.
PPM is yet another Game Boy (Color) tile and map editor that uses GTK. It supports many export formats (raw binary, GBDK .c, ISAS .asm, TASM .asm, WLA .asm, and RGBDS .asm), and has different Game Boy Color color emulation modes. It can also import GBTD and GBMB (popular tile and map editors for Windows) files. All mouse buttons draw, and there are loads of keyboard shortcuts. It can also optionally emulate the Game Boy's display.
Doom was the classic 3D shoot'em'up game from id Software. PrBoom is a game engine for playing Doom levels, which runs on both Windows and Linux/Unix systems. It uses the SDL graphics library. PrBoom a very faithful Doom port, with great effort taken to be compatible with as many original Doom levels and demos as possible.
