minili is an extremely minimal Linux distribution. It is 3.8 MB in size and does not include the X Window System, so it only operates in text mode. It is a standalone system, and can be useful for educational or experimental purposes. It uses a non-persistant file system while running. It is currently available as an ISO image.

Grand Unified Builder (GUB) is a mini source-based distribution and packaging system. It cross-compiles several packages with their dependencies and assembles them into a single installation package. It currently supports GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows installation packages. All packages are fully relocatable and can be installed with user privileges. Plain Python classes are used to describe package build specifics. For reasonably well behaved packages, individual build specifications can stay very simple by extending the generic build specification classes. It was originally developed for turnkey building of all LilyPond binary installers.

MeeGo is a Linux-based mobile and embedded operating system. It brings together the Moblin project, headed up by Intel, and Maemo, by Nokia, into a single open source activity. MeeGo currently targets platforms such as netbooks and entry-level desktops, handheld computing and communications devices, in-vehicle infotainment devices, connected TVs, and media phones. All of these platforms have common user requirements in communications, application, and Internet services in a portable or small form factor. The MeeGo project will continue to expand platform support as new features are incorporated and new form factors emerge in the market.
