Sniff formats hex packets from the tcpdump program and converts them to ASCII to make them easier to read and understand. Its features include colored console output, CSV file saving, and fully customizable output. The program directly accepts all tcpdump options, including parsing from packet files.
The DAP daemon runs entirely as a non-privileged user and sends regular updates of the server status to a specified set of peers in a cluster. You can specify any number of information elements, such as uptime, networkdevice counters (packet/octet), logged in users (via utmp), load averages, and memory/swap usage.
Complete System Resource Monitor and Task Organizor consists of a daemon, a client, and a WWW-server (within the daemon). The daemon can run tasks and handle client-daemon and WWW-daemon requests. Clients can receive statistics and issue commands. Monitoring and maintenance is performed as prescheduled tasks. The system includes a process monitor and handler, a basic WWW-client, and a console client.
Ganglia is a scalable distributed monitoring system for high-performance computing systems such as clusters and grids. It is based on a hierarchical design targeted at federations of clusters. Ganglia is currently in use on over 500 clusters around the world and has scaled to handle clusters with 2000 nodes.
MyAM is an alert manager. Send an alert to MyAM and it will perform the following operations: archive the alert, update the user views that are concerned in the alert, and execute actions depending on the alert type and content. Additionnaly, MyAM will clean old archived alerts. MyAM stores alerts on your disk (not in a database), which makes it easy to develop, easy to install, and easy to administer.
Habitat is an application and system monitoring system which captures, stores, and visualises table-based time series data. Monitor probes exist for Linux and Solaris with Windows and others coming soon. It has a command line interface, a fast GUI client for graphical visualisation, and a simple format for extending data capture in the agent. It can access data from its peers directly, by file sharing, or with the use of a separate central archiving repository to scale to installations of significant size.
NetworkLens is designed to be a simple-to-use Web-based application for Network Operation Center (NOC) personnel to monitor, capture, and document problems that are reported within the network being managed. It has a central pool of event notifications with a flexible architecture that allows for several different sources of alerting information. Similar to the input mechanism, output mechanisms (reporting agents) can monitor the central pool of event notifications and email alerts to interested parties. This saves the NOC personnel from having to continuously monitor systems; rather, they can simply respond to email alerts.
Epylog is a log notifier and parser that periodically tails system logs on Unix systems, parses the output in order to present it in an easily readable format (parsing modules currently exist only for Linux), and mails the final report to the administrator. It can run daily or hourly. Epylog is written specifically for large clusters where many systems log to a single loghost using syslog or syslog-ng.
