WEEDS is a Java 1.1 application which converts XML files describing written to "limon.dtd" to an HTML-formatted flora. We wrote weeds to make our own flora of 32 plants we observed in the Dominican Republic, but we believe WEEDS would be immediately useful for anyone who wants to make a flora. Also, the design and much of the code could be adapted to many other applications such as online catalogs.
HTMLDOC converts HTML files and Web pages into indexed HTML, PostScript, and PDF files suitable for online viewing and printing. It can be used as a standalone GUI application, in a batch document processing environment, as a Web-based report generation application, or in embedded environments to support printing of HTML content. It runs on all Unix platforms as well as Mac OS X and Windows 2000 and higher.
Latte, the Language for Transforming Text, is a simple and powerful text markup language. It has all the same markup tags as HTML but is much clearer. Latte is also a fully general programming language that lets you place oft-used constructs into user-defined functions and give them descriptive names. Functions also serve to separate content from layout. Latte documents are translated into high-quality HTML by the Latte interpreter, making it a better language for writing World Wide Web documents.
The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop an all-in-one Internet application suite. It contains an Internet browser, email and newsgroup client with an included Web feed reader, HTML editor, IRC chat, and Web development tools, and is sure to appeal to advanced users, Web developers, and corporate users. It uses much of the Mozilla source code powering such successful siblings as Firefox, Thunderbird, Camino, Sunbird, and Miro.
Elvis is a clone of vi/ex, the standard UNIX editor. Elvis supports nearly all of the vi/ex commands, in both visual mode and ex mode. Elvis adds support for multiple files, multiple windows, a variety of display modes including "hex" and "html", on-line help, WYSIWYG printing, and other miscellaneous extensions.
txt2html is a Perl program that uses the HTML::TextToHTML perl module to convert plain text to HTML. It supports headings, lists, tables, simple character markup, hyperlinking and is highly customizable. It recognizes some of the apparent structure of the source document (mostly whitespace and typographic layout) and attempts to mark that structure explicitly using HTML.
WPP is a small perl5 script that allows preprocessing of HTML files. It allows you to define "variables", which are brief abbreviations for longer constructs, and include common HTML fragments. It's useful for giving a uniform layout to different HTML pages. It can be used in cgi-bin programs for automatic generation of pages. With less HTML code inside you can make more flexible cgi-scripts.
