SystemTap is a tracing and probing tool that allows users to study and monitor the activities of the computer system in fine detail. It provides information similar to the output of tools like netstat, ps, top, and iostat; however, SystemTap is designed to provide more filtering and analysis options for collected information. It can be used as a performance monitoring tool, and is most useful when other tools cannot precisely pinpoint a bottleneck in the system, requiring a deep analysis of kernel activity. Application developers can also use it to monitor, in finer detail, how their application behaves within the Linux system.
Python System Monitor (Psymon) is a cross-platform task and performance monitor. It features global process monitoring, system load history (CPU, memory, network, and disks), disk information, network connections, detailed information and CPU, and memory percentage history per process.
Counters.pl collects the CLI counters from network devices and produces custom reports. These counters can be reset independently of the SNMP counters, and when collected weekly, can highlight issues such as connection errors that you will not see looking at graphs produced from SNMP counters. They also contain information that is not available via SNMP. The reports can be viewed on a Web site and/or sent via email. There is a flexible configuration language in which reports can be specified. The format and style of the HTML reports are controlled by Template Toolkit templates and CSS. Currently only Cisco network equipment is supported.
StressItOut is a hardware stressing and testing program for GNU/Linux. Its main purpose is to strain the computer to ensure the hardware is in good state. There are several test modules: CPU load, memory test, 2D OpenGL painting, 3D OpenGL rendering, hard drives, optical drives, serial ports transmission, and parallel ports. Support for lm-sensors is in the works. This software, when ready for release, will mainly be aimed at the QA departments of hardware manufacturing companies, who need to ensure their newly produced machines perform correctly under heavy workloads, and that all their components work as expected.
Situation Room allows you to display multiple Web resources on a single monitor. Possible use cases include creating ersatz tactical overviews for display (for example, a combination of Graphite and Nagios views which can provide a rapid, realtime overview of your ecosystem) and displaying advertisements or other information across multiple monitors in a retail setting.
Shinken is an advanced monitoring system that is based on Nagios, but redesigned and rewritten from scratch while maintaining compatibility. It can monitor all IT devices from systems to end user applications. In case of a failure, Shinken can alert the operation engineers so they can promptly repair it. It has the same capabilities as Nagios along with more advanced built-in facilities such as load balanced and high availability monitoring.
zLogFabric is an all in one cross-platform logging solution that collects log lines/messages over a messaging system to a central server instance. The modular design enables the server to store, forward, alert, and generate live statistics out of the logged data. It can collect log information from files, syslog, log4j, log4net, and Windows event logs.
nnmon is a central database and a Web interface for the nmon program's data. It allows you to store and view nmon data instantly. nnmon_sender.pl is a pure Perl script. It runs the external nmon program and opens its output file for reading. Every line read from the file is sent to the nnmon_server.py program via TCP/IP socket. nnmon_server.py reads incoming data, parses it, and inserts the result to the database. nnmonweb is a PHP script that lets you view monitored systems in a tree. If there is data for a system for the last 12 hours, it will show a chart on the right hand side. The database and server components have been tested on RHEL 5.5. The client parts have also been tested on AIX 6.1 and RHEL 5.5.
