Linux Multimedia Player is a tiny Linux-based live distribution that converts your computer into a multimedia player. It supports most of the known formats (MPEG 1 and 2, DivX, WMV, qt-mov, Real, MP3, WAV, WMA, Ogg, VCD, and DVD), acts as an MP3 streaming server, auto-detects the various partitions on IDE, SATA, and SCSI hard disks, and auto-detects sound, video, and network cards. It supports all cards as of kernel 2.6.21. Network support can be configured in the GUI. Options are menu-driven and require no knowledge of Linux.

jShuffle is a Java application which allows you to use your iPod Shuffle under GNU/Linux and many other operating systems. It features per song volume settings, start and stop time, play count, and sound check. This software will read and write the iTunesDB data stored on the iPod. It also supports the iTunesSD and iTunesShuffle data which are only in the iPod Shuffle.
Plait (pronounced "play") is a command-line jukebox and music player front end. It understands brief, easy to type queries that pick a single song, mix queries that combine works from multiple artists, and stream queries that find Shoutcast radio streams. A variety of filters are available to pick just the music you want to hear. In order to actually play the music it finds, Plait automatically hands off a playlist to one of the supported music players, or creates a playlist that you can manually load.
kisql is an icecast streamer based on lame. The goal of the project is to create a lightweight, CPU-friendly icecast streamer to be used for icecast hosting. kisql can read playlists from a MySQL database, run as a daemon, and receive commands from a MySQL table, so it can interact with a Web site.
RusXMMS provides character set conversion for languages which can be represented with more than one character set. It originally handled XMMS playlists, but can be useful for any program that works with small pieces of text in different languages and encodings. The library features language and encoding autodetection for most European languages, extensibility regarding new languages and encodings, recoding/translation of multi-language playlists, on-the-fly translation between languages using online services, and a GTK/GTK2 UI library.
