SCOP is a library for writing distributed applications. The functionality includes message-passing, events, and RPCs. It is primarily aimed at C++ programs on Linux, or Java anywhere. Much simpler than CORBA, it is easy to learn, general-purpose, fairly fast, thoroughly documented, complete, and free.

The SOAP to CORBA bridge/translator is written entirely in C++ and shows that it is indeed possible to do a generic translation of SOAP requests to CORBA method invocations and vice versa. This is implemented by using the CORBA Interface repository to match the incoming SOAP request to the corresponding CORBA service, build the dynamic invocation of the CORBA service, and generate the SOAP response (or possibly SOAP fault in the case of a CORBA user exception, for instance).

SwitchRMI is a framework for remote method invocation from Java that allows the client to choose from one of several RMI protocols. Objects can be made available over a number of transports; HTTP and SMTP are implemented. Any object vended can respond to an RMI request in any one of the supported protocols. Clients and servers can interact with third party implementations of supported protocols. New protocols and transports can be plugged in to the framework at runtime.

Encdec encodes and decodes C objects such as integers, IEEE754 float and double values, times, and internationalized strings to and from popular binary formats and a wide variety of character encodings as they might appear in various file formats or network messages. It is compiled directly against the libiconv sources.

GUPnP is an object-oriented open source framework for creating UPnP devices and control points, written in C using GObject and libsoup. The GUPnP API is intended to be easy to use, efficient, and flexible. The GUPnP framework consists of two libraries. GSSDP implements resource discovery and announcement over SSDP, and GUPnP implements the UPnP specification: resource announcement and discovery, description, control, event notification, and presentation (basic Web server functionality through libsoup). GUPnP does not include helpers for construction or control of specific standardized resources (e.g. MediaServer); this is left for higher level libraries utilizing the GUPnP framework.

Aorta is a load-balancing clustered P2P application. It executes Tasklets (which have the ability to split themselves into sub tasks that can be executed in pararell). A typical cluster contains of a LAN with 1-256 computers, each one running aorta. A Tasklet can be of any type ranging from encoding MP3s, Genomic DNA Alignment, or simply to rendering Web pages for high speed/heavily loaded Web sites. You can make functions calls to C/C++, applications like Matlab, etc.

ACDK is a development framework with a similar target of Microsoft's .NET or Sun's ONE platform, but it uses C++ as a core implementation language. It implements the standard library packages, including acdk::lang, acdk::lang::reflect, acdk::util, acdk::io, acdk::text (including regexpr), acdk::net, acdk::sql, acdk::xml, and more. Flexible allocator/garbage collection, threading, and Unicode are implemented in the core of ACDK. Extensions make C++ objects available for reflection, serialization, aspect-oriented class attributes, and [D]ynamic [M] ethod [I]nvocation. This DMI acts as an universal object oriented call interface to connect C++ with scripting languages (Java, Perl, Tcl, Python, Lisp, Visual Basic, and VBScript) and standard component technologies (CORBA and COM).
