SpamBlock counts attempts to establish a connection on port 25/tcp via tcpdump. When a host exceeds the allowed number of attempts per unit of time, it is added to a corresponding ipfw table and email notification is sent. Spamblock currently supports ipfw only, but it can be easily adapted for any firewall and OS. It can also be configured to watch multiple ports to prevent Telnet and SSH attacks in addition to SMTP.
xz is a data compression program using the LZMA algorithm and a similar user interface to gzip. Typically it compresses both tighter and faster than bzip2, and decompresses nearly as fast as gzip. The .xz file format includes headers and checksums, and also includes data filters (LZMA2) that can increase compression further.
Multi Threaded Daemon - enhanced is a class that implements a daemon that can spawn multiple parallel threads. It includes a sample app to monitor a "queue" directory on the filesystem, and spawns up to "N" child processes to parse individual files from it. It is an enhanced version of the original Multithreaded Daemon class written by Benoit Perroud. This version provides several robustness improvements, adds support for handling signals (SIGTERM, SIGHUP), and a unique PID file to avoid starting multiple instances.
PersistClass provides access to relational databases for PHP. It attempts to focus on simplicity and convenience by eliminating the need for boilerplate, meaningless code. It can establish database connections (MySQL, Oracle, etc.), execute SQL queries, parse query results, provide convenience methods (read a single row or value, etc.), escape data (against SQL injection, HTML escaping for outputs), handle transactions, and provide strict error handling and object persistence (storing and retrieving PHP objects in db tables).
