AJAX Tree Control is a modified version of SilverStripe's tree control. It adds dynamic loading of child nodes via AJAX. The default implementation uses the prototype library to make dynamic requests, but this behavior can be overridden by setting functions on the global Tree object. There are a few demo Ruby on Rails applications included in the distribution that show how to use and customize the tree.
Tmpf is tiny script (written in Ruby) to write standard output to a temporary file, run an application with the name of that file as an argument, then delete the temporary file when done. This is useful when you want to pipe output to a program that only accepts files, not standard input. Example: cat myfile.ps | tmpf gv (equivalent to: gv myfile.ps). Despite the incredible simplicity of this script, there is nothing quite like it provided among the standard Unix tools.
Zadolbator is a simple reminder component for Jabber server. As it is installed on the server side, it can be used by all users of this Jabber server, and does not depend on the client software used. Its main purpose is to remind you about events such as birthdays or holidays, though it can be used also for keeping your everyday reminders about meetings, things to do, etc. It uses the iCalendar format to store events, so some basic understanding of iCalendar is needed to use it. This also simplifies importing existing events if they're in iCalendar format.
Compendium is a tool to generate encyclopedia-type Web sites (e.g., databases of books, authors, publishers, and literary genres) from content housed in a MySQL database, based on HTML templates. It generates pages with relatively static content and relies on Ruby on Rails for providing a backend to maintain the database. It radically separates content (in the database) from presentation. To facilitate this separation, it allows users to define their own custom tags and provides a simple translation engine to deal with, for example, tables of contents and navigation paths.
Chord Explorer is very simple and lightweight program to explore guitar chords. Unlike some other solutions, it shows not only finger positions for particular chords, but also full information including notes forming the chord and its positions on the fretboard, thus allowing easy chord modification to fit user needs.
Fantasdic is a DICT client (RFC 2229). This is a dictionary application that uses the network to retrieve definitions. For example, nihongobenkyo.org is a server that provides Japanese dictionaries. Add it to the settings in Fantasdic, and you can now look up Japanese words. Another well-known server with many dictionaries is dict.org.
Gravacacher is very simple and lightweight caching server designed for one specific purpose: to cache avatar images from services like www.gravatar.com, which provide "globally recognized avatars". Typically, Gravacacher will be deployed on sites that host blogs or forums which depend on gravatars. Gravacacher supports a security mechanism that allows it to answer only queries made via URLs generated by your server software, such as blog or forum engines, permanent cached entities, and both positive and negative TTLs when caching.
