GRASS (the Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) is a software raster- and vector-based GIS (Geographic Information System), image processing system, graphics production system, and spatial modeling system. It contains many modules for raster data manipulation, vector data manipulation, rendering images on the monitor or paper, multispectral image geocoding and processing, point data management and general data management. It also has tools for interfacing with digitizers, scanners, and the PostgreSQL, DBF, and ODBC connected databases. GRASS operates on all common operating systems.
FFTW is a fast C FFT library. It includes complex, real, symmetric, multidimensional, and parallel transforms, and can handle arbitrary array sizes efficiently.It is typically faster than other freely available FFT implementations, and is even competitive with vendor-tuned libraries (benchmarks are available at the homepage). To achieve this performance, it uses novel code generation and runtime self optimization techniques (along with many other tricks).
PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) is a portable message-passing programming system, designed to link separate host machines to form a ``virtual machine'' which is a single, manageable computing resource. The virtual machine can be composed of hosts of varying types, in physically remote locations. PVM applications can be composed of any number of separate processes, or components, written in a mixture of C, C++ and Fortran. The system is portable to a wide variety of architectures, including workstations, multiprocessors, supercomputers and PCs.
VMD (Visual Molecular Dynamics) is designed for the visualization and analysis of biological systems such as proteins, nucleic acids, lipid bilayer assemblies, etc. It may be used to view more general molecules, as VMD can read standard Protein Data Bank (PDB) files and display the contained structure. VMD provides a wide variety of methods for rendering and coloring a molecule: simple points and lines, CPK spheres and cylinders, licorice bonds, backbone tubes and ribbons, cartoon drawings, and others. VMD can be used to animate and analyze the trajectory of a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. In particular, VMD can act as a graphical front end for an external MD program by displaying and animating a molecule undergoing simulation on a remote computer. VMD uses OpenGL and OpenGL Programmable Shading Language for high performance rendering of large structures.
THUD is a register transfer level (RTL) simulation environment optimized for cycle- based designs. The design is expressed in TH, a Scheme-based hardware description language (HDL) that supports 1/0/x operators and hierarchical instantiation. THUD can be used as a library, in batch mode, or through one of its interactive interfaces.
LK is an implementation of the Lin-Kernighan heuristic for the Traveling Salesman Problem and for the minimum weight perfect matching problem. It is tuned for 2-d geometric instances, and has been applied to certain instances with up to a million cities. Also included are instance generators and Perl scripts for munging TSPLIB instances. <P>This implementation introduces ``efficient cluster compensation'', an experimental algorithmic technique intended to make the Lin-Kernighan heuristic more robust in the face of clustered data.

g2 is an easy to use, portable and powerful 2D graphics library. It provides a comprehensive set of functions for simultaneous generation of graphical output on different types of devices. The following devices are currently supported: Postscript, X11, FIG (xfig), PNG, and JPEG using the gd library, and Win32. g2 is written in C (ANSI) and additionally has Fortran, Perl, and Python interfaces.
