It can be seen as a combined (but stripped down) version of UN*X tools like awk, sed, and grep with a graphical user interface. The intent is to give users the powers such tools provide without having to train them in their use. In order to archive this goal, logsmith can easily be customized through a plugin architecture to perform the commons tasks that a specific user base might require.
