NewsOutlook is a tool that aims to improve the signal to noise ratio of Usenet newsgroups and syndication feeds (RSS and Atom) by selecting only useful news. It consists of two modules: a Web-based configuration front-end and a server daemon. It uses the HTML::Mason framework and stores data in a MySQL database.
Net_NNTP is a PHP/PEAR library for communication with NNTP servers. Net_NNTP handles connection and protocol-level commands (RFC977), including many non-standard commands (RFC2980), via a user-friendly API which hides the actual NNTP commands/syntax. Some knowledge about NNTP and general knowledge about email and MIME is required, since parsing of content and headers is left up to the user. Net_NNTP allows advanced users direct usage of NNTP commands via the separate protocol implementation. Net_NNTP includes a fully-functional NNTP to HTML gateway demo application.
Gnus is an extremely powerful, configurable news and mail reader written in Emacs LISP for GNU Emacs and XEmacs. It provides threading, sorting, and article scoring; can retrieve messages via NNTP, local news or mail spool files, IMAP, POP, and other methods; and has features that make it efficient for reading news over low-speed network connections.
nn Newsreader is a curses-based USENET news reader. The motto of nn is its expanded name, "No News is good news, but nn is better". The nn newsreader is designed to let you minimize the amount of time you spend reading news (or, more realistically, to allow you to follow even more newsgroups). Nn allows you to quickly select articles of interest and skip the rest. It also supports efficient article killing and selection of articles by author and subject.
KLibido is a Usenet (NNTP) file grabber for KDE. Among its features it includes a multi-tabbed graphical interface to display the article list, .nzb (newzbin) files download, automatic joining/decoding of articles, multiple server support, multiple download threads per server, and management of the download queue.
sTeam provides a technical platform which allows groups of students, lecturers, and any other groups to construct and arrange their individual and cooperative learning and working space. It consists of an object-oriented server connected to a database, and Web, Java, and other (FTP, SMTP, IRC, etc.) clients. The server is event-driven and manages all user objects as well as the communication between the connected clients. Features that were different from most other cooperation tools is the self-organisation and self-administration by the members within the virtual environment.
