Embrace and extend
It's time for open source people to embrace and extend.
The Linux community doesn't have to always play the defensive role.
Freshmeat can become a major hub if it doesn't exclude.
I think maybe Freshmeat can group Linux open source software and Windows open source software together. And then you just look at your group you're interested in.
Maybe have Windows section in light red and Linux section in light blue.
It's all about the apps and so to make the OS not such an important thing, these should be a base of open source apps that are cross platform. That it a better solution then everyone trying to use Java applets to get this effect.
Cross-platform native open source will change things.
Windows shareware developers won't be able to float poor shareware out there anymore expecting it to sell.
They will once again have to provide a value add.
