windows and open souce
I knew when I saw the posted question that there would be win9* bashing and thus far to little focus on the question asked. What does it matter if you hate win? Why is that? Because very time you download a new app it annoys the piss out of you with registation demands? Or that the OS itself and apps are unstable? I think those are 2 major points in the anti-win9* movment. Don't get me wrong here, I've been a devote linux user for 3 years now. But as Ive come to love open source as it makes my system better , I feel that open source for windows based apps would be the best thing that happened to it. I can't find the link.....but recently there was an SSH client for windows released with all the src code, obviously this is a good start. We need more free compilers like DJGPP for windows to be released, a free version of VB would be incredable, its WELL within m$ power to relase a stripped down VB compiler ect as freeware. Most windows based software is written by coders who have been infected by the m$ greed virus, they anoy you till you either crack the software or pay for it. Can this change? YES! It won't happen overnight, the base in which software is deveoped on win is the oposite from linux and GPL, one is love of code, the other a love of money. Win is a great system for developing apps, ya its not great for a server or anything linux is good at. What I often say to felow linux addicts is that while linux is kickass its not the soulution for EVEY computing aspect. Windows drives the whole videogame market, personally I can't stand games but they look like fun to code as I love gfx work. I had a point....ya. Windows and open src is a great idea! It just can't be looked at in the same manner as it is for linux. Differnet OS' need differnt points of view, even if on the same path to open src.
Hope this was semi clear......forgive spellin errors :)
