Win32 software and filtering
I can't think of a reason why I would possibly be against getting the word out on any kind of free software, completely independant of what platform it runs on. If people submit GPL'd software that runs on the Foo-OS written by Joe Bloe and used by a total of 4 people in the universe, I don't see why it shouldn't get into freshmeat.
But at the same time, i don't really want to see submissions that run only under Win32 or Foo-OS because it has no relevance to my situation. I don't mind software written for FreeBSD or other another UNIX because it's usually not too difficult to tweak for linux. But win32 software is a whole other ball of wax for porting.
It would be nice if the entries boxes were at least color coded, (like, blue boxes correspond to win32) so I can visually skip over the ones that I know I'm not going to be interested in, and so on. Even better would be a slashdot like system where I could filter out everything by topic (win32 software) or what another poster suggested, unix.freshmeat.org and win32.freshmeat.org.
The one thing I gotta say is that I would prefer all software on this site to be only opensource/free software. But that's not really a strong preference. I know there's a lot of people who get something out of the non-free submissions, and I don't care enough to take that away from them in the name of convenience on my part.
So please, put any free software in here that applies IMHO, just let the users choose what they want to see in some format.
