OSSWEB is a Web application development framework for NaviServer consisting of the following parts: a security layer, a templating manager, a database layer, and a connection manager. Many modules are available, including news, weather, TV guide with PVR, contacts, administration, timesheets, problem/tasktracker, forums, shopping cart, calendar, photo album, and Webmail.
DNS Module for AOLserver is a module that implements a DNS server and proxy. It can serve from its own database or perform forwarding to another DNS server and cache results. The server doesn't support a database directly, instead it provides commands similar to 'route add|del' to add and remove DNS records to/from memory cache.
Maverix is an AOLserver module that implements the SMTP protocol and acts as an SMTP proxy with anti-spam and anti-virus capabilities. It includes a Web interface to manage quarantined messages and an administrative interface based on OSSWEB. Supported anti-spam software includes SpamAssassin and DSPAM, and supported anti-virus software packages are ClamAV and Sophos. Features include whitelisting, greylisting, and blacklisting, periodic digests with quarantined messages, a challenge/response mechanism, POP-auth, and short-TTL URLs for digests.
OSSMON is an easy-to-use, Web-based monitoring package based on the OSSWEB application framework. It supports SNMP monitoring as well as specific services like POP3, SMTP, and ping. The main goal is to have a system that monitors network devices and produces alerts when a problem occurs or a device is inaccessible. Alert rules can be defined based on variables from the database or received from remote devices. It has reporting and performance charts, dynamic maps, a status console, and supports small and medium-sized networks. It has no external dependencies; everything runs on Naviserver.
Linux Multimedia Box is an application for building multimedia Linux based devices, similar to a PVR or set top box. XML is used for describing the user interface, and events and callbacks are in embedded Tcl. lmbox also provides the ability to watch movies and listen to music from the Internet, via direct links or using RSS feeds.
NaviServer is a versatile multiprotocol server originally based on AOLserver . It can be easily extended in either C or Tcl to create interesting Web sites and services. Main features include high performance multithreaded architecture, massive scalability and extensible approach, many modules, interpreted config file during startup, dynamic pages (ADP) in TCL, caching functions (static files and TCL byte code), pooled database connections, thread global arrays, introspection commands, mass virtual hosting that does not require server restart, a watchdog that restarts failed servers automatically, a telnet control port, efficient handling of down-/uploads, real-time upload progress/statistics, and more.
